JioCinema to JioHotstar – Migration Overview
On November 14, 2024, Viacom18 and Disney Star officially merged their entertainment assets under the JioStar banner.
Later, on February 14, 2025, JioCinema merged with Disney+ Hotstar to launch the unified streaming service JioHotstar. As part of the process, JioCinema’s existing subscribers were transferred to the new platform, and all anime content available on JioCinema migrated to JioHotstar.
This merger effectively consolidated anime streaming under one platform, marking a new phase for anime availability in India.
Removed Hindi-dubbed Anime from Disney+ Hotstar
Following the merger, Disney+ Hotstar began quietly removing its existing anime titles from the platform in early January 2025, signaling the start of a major content transition.
Before the Jio–Disney merger, Disney+ Hotstar hosted several anime titles like Black Clover, Dr. Stone, Heavenly Delusion, Summer Time Rendering, Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall, and Dance Dance Danseur.
